What’s the Difference between a CRM-system and a Marketing Automation System like Otto

Put simply, the CRM system is to structure your business relations with your customers, but it doesn't generally "sell" on its own like a Marketing Automation system will do, but requires the sales representative to do the job itself.

Many CRM-systems may have been implemented in organizations, but are in reality never used because they are quite complex and requires a lot of administrative burden and they have a steep learning-curve.

If your products are fairly straightforward and you don't have more than a few contact-persons per customer, you can likely use the manual contact-handling features of a Marketing Automation system like Otto to make basic handling of things like:

  • Keep contact details in order and up to date includinc which automated sequences should she receive,
  • keep notes of your interactions with your her,
  • keep track of your next due date to contact her off-line, and
  • be able to work through a list of such contacts very fast using click-to-call functionality and all in an intuitive overview fashion.

However, some times you will want to use a special CRM-system on top of your Marketing Automation system, e.g. when you have:

  • Many different decision makers with every potential customer,
  • maybe even many different sales processes pending towards the same customer, and
  • many different and very complex products.

If you use Marketing Automation such as Otto you will also on top of another CRM-system for complex sales be able to separate the wheat from the chaff to see which of the many contacts who are most worth contacting.

Of course you can try and see if it’s "enough" for you with a Marketing Automation system like Otto to start with. If you have limited resources, it will also help you to sell more "by itself" which saves a lot of time.

Also you won’t need to have an additional system for your newsletters as a Marketing Automation system like Otto will help you do that, too. (You can even use it as your web-hosting platform for e.g. Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla Web Content Management Systems and as your regular Mail-server for your Internet-Domain, too.)
