Bounce-handling Print

  • 1

If you find it strange that you're receiving an unusually high number of bounced emails, or if you're getting bounces that you know are correct, let's address the issue. It's not uncommon for around 10-20% of emails to become outdated and bounce each year. When an email bounces, the contact remains in Otto, but it is also added to the list of bounced emails. This ensures that no future emails are sent to that address. Otherwise, your overall deliverability rate could be affected if too many of your emails continue to bounce.

There are various reasons for a bounce, such as the recipient's email inbox being full or a mail server error on their end. It could also be due to a low sender score, which can result from multiple recent bounces or having your content flagged as spammy by certain mail servers. Additionally, being blacklisted by a specific spam-avoidance service can cause bounces.

If you believe a bounce is marked incorrectly, you can manually mark it as not bounced for that specific contact. However, this process must be done individually for each contact.

If you suspect that your sender score is low or if you want to check if you're blacklisted and wish to be removed, follow these steps:

  1. Visit https://senderscore.org/.
  2. Enter the IP address of the domain where your Otto is located. You can find the IP address by using the command-line interface on your computer. For example, on a Windows PC, you can type "CMD" in your search bar to access the command-line interface. By pinging your domain name, such as check-tool.com in this example, you'll obtain the corresponding IP address (which is likely the same for your own domain).
  3. Provide the required information, and you will be able to view your sender score. Typically, a sender score above 85 is considered good.
  4. If your sender score is below 85 and/or you suspect being blacklisted, it's advisable to wait a few days before sending out a major email campaign. Usually, your deliverability will improve automatically during this time. If you don't see any improvement or would like us to investigate further, we can assist you. Please note that the investigation process may take approximately an hour, and any necessary remedies, if possible, may take 1-2 additional hours. These services will be billed accordingly.
